About The Beach Hut

Upper Deck is situated in front of pinewoods on the dog-free area of Wells beach, just a few minutes walk from the car park, water tap, public conveniences and Wells Beach Cafe.

The hut was built in 2018 in a traditional style on raised stilts with a hinged wooden shutter, lockable stable door and an open verandah with steps leading down to the beach. The steps are a little steep, therefore it’s not ideal for people with limited mobility. But because it is quite high up, you can enjoy fabulous uninterrupted views of the beach. So it’s perfect for watching the world go by with a cuppa or a glass of wine!

Inside the hut you will find everything you need for a fun day on the beach including chairs, folding tables, buckets, spades, beach games, blankets, cutlery, crockery, unbreakable glasses, gas stove, kettle and mugs. There’s also tea, coffee and sugar as well as salt and vinegar for the essential fish and chips!

About Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells is an attractive coastal town with good access to the market towns of Fakenham and Kings Lynn. Holt and Norwich are also within easy driving distance.

There are many amenities and leisure activities both in the town and close by in the neighbouring coastal villages. So you can go sailing, bird watching and walking, and visit a wide selection of restaurants whilst you’re here. The Quay is still the hub of the town. You’ll see lots of “gillying” going on (fishing for shore crabs). Also, look out for the resident Dutch sailing Ketch “Albatross”, alongside the small fishing fleet and growing number of leisure craft.

The beach is a mile along the beach road, accessible via the sea wall walk, by car or a small railway. It boasts beautiful golden sands, dunes and the colourful iconic beach huts fringing the pinewoods.

Directions

From the Quay, take the beach road down to the beach car park. To the east of the shop building is a set of steps/ramp which take you onto the dog-free section of the beach.  As you come onto the beach, turn left by the Coastwatch Tower, walk across the wooden boardwalk towards the start of the beach huts where you will see Upper Deck just a little further up.
